Sharing Knowledge

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in satsang today
Ques: When we read about bad deeds in the newspaper, does it also affect our karma?
‪#‎SriSri‬: No, you should read it lightly. If you take it into yourself, yes it affects your mind. It won’t affect anything else. Read lightly and forget it. It’s all part of the Universe.
Ques: I don’t feel comfortable maintaining relationships and without them I feel sad and depressed. How to handle this?
#SriSri: At least you became aware of what is the problem. Keep going, keep yourself busy, time will pass. You will overcome this. No state of mind is permanent. It all changes. And listen to Ashtavakra, it will give you enormous strength.
Ques: Is there death for the mind? Can we die while we are alive in this body?
#SriSri: Every time you meditate, it is dying. That’s when meditation happens.
Ques: Is there any connection between chakras in our body and astrology? I noticed that after each advanced meditation program, some changes are happening.
#SriSri: It changes. No, no, astrology is also subject to change.
Ques: You say that during Yagnas, energy increases. Given that energy cannot be created or destroyed, how does the energy increase?
#SriSri: Yes, dormant energy becomes active. Like the seed which is not sprouted, it sprouts and becomes a tree.
Ques: When people we are emotionally attached to, hurt us, it takes us a long time to recover. What can I do?
#SriSri: No, no. Don’t think it takes a long time. Just see the whole Universe as a dream. This is all a dream, whatever happened is a dream, what’s going to happen is a dream. Wake up and read Yoga Vasishtha, Vedanta that will uplift your spirit, Sudarshan Kriya, all this will help.
Ques: If we surrender to the Satguru, should we still keep our desires, intentions and attachments?
#SriSri: No it comes you keep it otherwise it will anyway happen. Without asking things come to you. But if it comes to your mind that you want to ask, just ask. Be spontaneous, be natural.
Ques: What happened to Radha after Krishna’s departure?
#SriSri: Actually Radha merged with Krishna. Radha is not a separate energy, Radha is Krishna’s energy. She was not separate from Him at all. The feminine part of Krishna is Radha. It’s said once it so happened that Radha became Krishna and Krishna became Radha. Radha became dark and Krishna became fair, it just switched over, overnight. That means they are not two separate entities, one only.
Ques: Is the ego born out of desires or desires born out of ego?
#SriSri: Ego is there, ego is one aspect of our seven layers of existence. Don’t say one is born out of the other. And desire is when mind goes outward through five sense, desires come up.
Ques: I’m in a phase where I am letting my emotions take over me. Am I on the right path?
#SriSri: Emotions are such that sometime you should abstain from them, sometimes you should express them. You can’t take extreme views here. You cannot always suppress your emotion and you cannot always keep expressing your emotion. Both will lead you to trouble. If you always suppress your emotion you will be in trouble. If you always keep expressing your emotions, then also you will be in trouble and you will put others also in trouble. That’s why here, emotions should be streamlined through wisdom or Viveka. When there is viveka and emotions are there, then you know which emotions to express, which not to express and where you should express, where you cannot. You know someone is feeling happy and you land up in someone’s funeral then you can’t say I am so happy and keep jumping! People will feel like slapping you. You may be happy but you cannot express it. Similarly, if you are sad and there is a wedding reception happening you can’t go and say I am so sad. People will not like to see you as then they are celebrating, right?.. So you have to use your discrimination. Where, when, how one must express the emotions and where it is not wise to do so.
Ques: Does attraction to the enlightened bring joy and peace or is it like any other desire? Also why are the enlightened ones so attractive?
#SriSri: No idea! When you are so centered you are equidistant from everybody. That is the beauty of the center. The center is equidistant from every point on the circumference. And every point on the circumference feels so close to it, connected to it, totally connected. And it is the connectivity which evokes all the positive emotions like love.
Ques: How to act peacefully when you are filled with anger?
#SriSri: When you are filled with anger this is the right place. Sit and meditate.
Ques: How to be humble yet authoritative at work?
#SriSri: that’s a skill that you have to manage. You have to manage to be humble and yet firm. Just like this. You know it is easy to be strict and arrogant. And it is easy to be humble and weak. Humility and weakness is no good. Strength with humility is the most appreciable quality. Arrogance with authority is very easy but authority and humility together is something which is worth having. And that if you can manage to master, you have succeeded in life. And similarly it’s easy to give up things in anger, in frustration but letting go with a fullness of contentment, happiness is a skill.
Ques: Can you share your secret of time management with us?
#SriSri: Look everyone has the same amount of time. You make your priorities first because everybody has the same twenty four hours. The prime minister also has twenty four hours and the peon also has twenty four hours. But the peon does some work and the prime minister does some other work. And they both have no time! So think and plan your day. And in spite of all that you should sit and meditate every day. Priorities are important. I have so much work but I still manage to talk to everyone, right? I have to do it. If you see from a larger perspective a person’s problem is nothing. But for them it is a big problem. What college should I go to, becomes a big problem for the mind. So first you think you can do it, you can manage the time and don’t feel the pressure of all the work at hand. And don’t think how much work you did. This is another headache! If you think I have done so much work, you feel so exhausted thinking about it. It happens, the work comes in front of you and energy also comes to you and you finish it. But if you sit and think I have so much work to do or I did so much, that thinking about the work is exhausting. It tires you, wears you down.
